Day 260, September 17, 2013: Cleared to add some laps to the mix…progress!
Hurrah! At least I think, hurrah!
No, seriously, I did reach a milestone today in my latest journey on the recovery train. I got to get back in the pool. And I couldn’t be happier!
It’s been 3 1/2 weeks since my hip surgery and, thanks to my allergy to bandage adhesive, my steri-strips were gone and my fabulous physical therapist, Jake Spivey  gave me clearance to add swimming into my repertoire. In addition to my 20 minutes 2x/day and strength and mobility exercises 3x/day, I get to add pool time and elliptical time to my recovery efforts.
This wasn’t my longest swim ever, and I alternated 100 easy swim (freestyle) and 100 easy pull, but I was delighted to be in the pool. I even got a little bit of practice swimming among others as I shared the lane with 6 slower swimmers and a dad trying to teach a little one to swim. I’m sure that will come in handy when I’m able to race in my next triathlon. đŸ˜‰
