Hitching up and driving off with your shiny new addition to your family can be stressful for anyone. A book that every Airstreamer, newbie or not, should have on his or her bookshelf is The Newbies Guide to Airstreaming, 2nd edition, by Rich Luhr.  This small book is packed with information that can make your time with your tin-can better.

Luhr is the editor and publisher of Airstream Life magazine as well as being an active Airstreamer since 2003, blogger, and runs the Airstream Life store. He has also written Airstream Life’s (Nearly) Complete Guide to Airstream Maintenance. The Newbies  Guide is a nice compilation of tips that have come from his experiences designed to provide readers with a “…quick-start guide to get you traveling and camping with confidence.”

While not an all-inclusive tome, it will give both first-time owners and those who have owned other travel trailers a quick and easy guide to the most important things you need to know to feel comfortable traveling and camping. Not only does Luhr give you an idea of what to consider, where to look for particular information, and checklists; he invites to you record the information particular to your Airstream so that when you pull out the book for reference, you don’t have the added step of looking for that information. Let’s face it, sometimes it’s just better to have the information at your fingertips rather than going to look for it (in the dark, cold, or wet) whilst in the midst of an emergency.

We learned of many things that we wouldn’t have thought of and gained confidence with our prior experiences with sailboat and other camper ownership. Thankfully we’ve benefited from several of Luhr’s suggestions without making the mistakes we might have otherwise.

The Newbies Guide to Airstreaming is available at Amazon.com in spiral format (linked above) and in Kindle format. It is also available for download via iBooks. We have both spiral and iBooks versions as we both ordered it separately. No matter what the occasion, we’ll have it on hand to help us begin to troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Disclosure notice. We purchased both versions of this book and were not compensated for this review. The links above are amazon affiliate links, however.
